About Us

“Central Research Laboratory” operates under “Material Research Center for Cultural Property and Artworks”, established in affiliation to the Rectorate of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2010 by the support of Turkish Ministry of Development.

Central Research Laboratory meets the analysis demands of the public enterprises, institutions and the private sector, with its specialists from different scientific disciplines and a wide range of advanced analytical equipment in the field of material characterization of cultural property and artworks for conservation-restoration. It also develops interdisciplinary projects in this field. It consists of eight laboratories such as Chemistry, Mechanics, Wood, Petrography, X-ray, Electron Microscope, Spectroscopy, Chromatography and the Mobile laboratory. By the use of portable and laboratory based instruments present in Central Research Laboratory, the in-situ materials analyses of artworks which are not allowed to be taken out from the museums and certain collections, historical artifacts from the archaeological excavations, unmovable cultural property such as mosques and fountains can be performed non-destructively or with sampling in the micro scale, elucidating on their production technology as well.
